Brief History:
AADB started as the American League for the Deaf-Blind in 1937 and provided services like correspondence clubs for deaf-blind people, and print to Braille – Braille to print transcription services. It was called various names (National Association of the Deaf-Blind was one of them in the 1960's), but it was finally renamed the American Association of the Deaf-Blind in 1979. In 1984, it became a 501 (c) (3) organization. AADB (then called NADB) held its first conference in 1975 near Cleveland, Ohio with 300 people attending, at its 2006 conference in Baltimore, MD, over 900 people attended. To ensure that all deaf-blind people achieve their maximum potential through increased independence, productivity, and integration into the community.
